Christmas tree laminated with pesto recipe for aperitif

The recipe for puffed Christmas tree with pesto is actually the same as a sun -shaped pie, with the garnish of your choice. Ideal for the holiday aperitif before going to the table. The recipe explained step by step in photos.

Christmas tree laminated with pesto for aperitif, like a sun pie

Here is a pretty fir pie that we often see on social networks. It is true that it is the most beautiful effect for a festive aperitif, perfect for welcoming the family with a small cup of champagne and other appetizers.
This fir -shaped puff pastry to share is also very fun to prepare. To prepare with children, they love it.

It is the same principle as for a sun pie: two puff pastry garnishedyou make the shape of your choice, cut strips or rays, twist, brush with gilding and bake in the oven.

Which puff pastry to choose to form the trees?

Whether your puff pastry is homemade or bought commercially, The ideal is here to have two rectangular puff pastry.
You can always use round pasta but then your tree will be less slender, more packed.

First prepare your base

Spread the first puff pastry on the plate of the oven or a pastry plate covered with parchment paper.
Spread a layer of pesto over the entire surface of the dough. Arrange the second dough over.

Spread the pesto on the puff pastry

Then draw and cut your tree

I made you pictures in step to guide you.
First do markings: the first at the top of the width to identify the top of the tree. And two down for the foot of the tree.
Then Cut the fir contours : the shape of the foot, the bottom of the branches, and the triangular shape of the branches.
Remove the falls. Do not throw them away but have fun making the shapes of your choice.

Cut the tree and form the branches

Form the branches

Make bands to form the branches. I used the blade of an office knife, about 1 centimeter, to have uniform strips.
Then as for the sun pie, Have each band do several laps. Try to do pretty twists. Three at the base, then two or only one as you go up to the top of the tree.

twist the branches to form a pretty Christmas tree

Beaten egg

Beat an egg and using a brush or failing that with your fingers, brow your tree with gilding. You can use liquid cream instead of the beaten egg.
For gilding you can also only use the egg yolk with a little milk. In the kitchen, different practices are endless!

And optional, the decor

Sprinkle Sesame seeds, poppy seed, flax seed or other seed.

Brush with egg gilding and sprinkle with sesame

What garnish to choose for this Christmas recipe?

I offer you a garnish here Basil pesto. To tell the truth, a mix of pesto and hellish pesto which is a slightly spicy variant that is found in the trade.
In the absence of the brand I found you can simply add to the pesto a Little chili pepper, chili or paprika To give a little pep to your tree pie.

In salted version

THE Pesto Rosso is also a good choice, as in my recipe for sun pie.
You can also make a mix of Pesto Basil and Pesto Rossoor pesto and olive tapenade. Or a mix Pesto and fresh cheese.
Also try the possible variants cheese. Ham – Emmental or reblochon, Salmon – Fresh cheese… Or vegetable sauces: eggplantnot too liquid tomato sauce …

In sweet version

In sweet version it is guaranteed success for children with Nutella or other spread inside. You can also put jam a mixture Sugar – Cinnamon.

And what to do with the Fir Falls?

You will end up with two rectangles which correspond to the base under the bottom branches, and two triangles which remain from the triangle of the shape of the tree. Put them on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper and have fun making the shapes you want. I did that:

And if you liked this recipe, try this variant in an individual tree made on the same principle of puff pastry and pesto garnish. They are too cute.
